In celebration of International Women's Day, AVA showcases a collection of six short silent films by Alice Guy-Blaché, the pioneering female filmmaker.

Between 1896 and 1906, Alice Guy stood out as possibly the sole woman directing films globally. Initially starting her career as a secretary to Léon Gaumont, she ventured into filmmaking with her debut in 1896. Following her inaugural film, she took the helm in directing, producing, or overseeing nearly six hundred silent films. These films varied in duration from a mere minute to half an hour, with most being single-reel films. Beyond these, she also played a significant role in directing, producing, or overseeing around one hundred and fifty sound films that were synchronized with the Gaumont Chronophone.
